Orla Benedict Taylor papers, 1886-1945.

This collection contains more than one thousand letters mainly from prominent Michigan men, including Hazen S. Pingree, W.C. Maybury, Adam Strohm and others. There are also three volumes of transcripts of testimony before the Wayne County Circuit Court in the case of Michigan Central Railroad Company et al vs. the Michigan Railroad Commission.

Born in Fowlerville, Mich. on Sept. 29, 1865, Orla B. Taylor graduated from the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1886 and an L.L.B. in 1887. He worked in partnership with Edwin F. Conely in Detroit from 1888-1902, and was later associated with Charles F. Delbridge, Fred A. Behr and others. On March 20, 1837, legislation providing for work to proceed on three railroads and two canals in Michigan became law. Adam Strohm was born in Venersberg, Sweden on Feb. 16, 1870. He was a librarian at Armour Institute of Technology in Trenton, N.J. before becoming assistant to the Librarian at Detroit Public Library. He was Chief Librarian at DPL from 1913-1941.
